Check out these build pics.
I disagree. The trick is to have 2 buggys, 1 for show and go and the other one for show and go. I think you may have noticed, you hit a nerve.
I dint say one had to be a trailer queen. I have spent 2 years dilligently working on my Manx II. I took it to the beack for one day. I ruined most all of the fine detail work I spent months getting just right. The damage has been repaired (for the most part) and now I have a 2nd buggy, a Manx clone. I will build this buggy this winter but I wont pay as much attention to details (like polishing the brass brake line tee). The Manx II will never be a trailer queen. I drive it all the time but it will never see the beach again either.
I have a 33 Ford coupe that has taken best in class at every car show it has been it, including 1st in class at 2 seperate World Of Wheels shows. I drive the car to all of the shows. It has been driven to shows as far away as South Dakota. I drove the car down the Chicago expressways in 5 inches of snow and salt to one of the World Of Wheels shows. It took first in class over the trailered cars.
My brother and I built a buggy for my sister and sister in law. The buggy lives in the dunes. 4 years after we built it, they entered it in a show and took first in class.
What I'm saying is, drive and use the vehicle the way it's supposed to be used and it can still win shows

He's building it to be a daily driver. Has over 400 hours in it so far. He says it will cause 'ulcers' trying to maintain this level of quality on a vehicle, and they're meant to be driven. He's hasn't driven a buggy yet. I cannot wait to see the finished pics either.

Seams
He's doing a phenominal job. Where's the seam on the pans? Great pictures. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=143816
Thanks Uncle Bob - - Here are some seams
How'd he do dat? I'm sure there was entirely to much work involved to get the seam to Disappear. It looks like it will be a show stopper when it's complete.
Jerry - It really was not to bad welding the pans . I used a tig welder and just fuzed the seams together . very little filler rod was needed as the seams were very closely matched before welding, also very little warpage because of the Tig
Very nicely done..Is that a liquid or powder finish?
Thank you for the feed back - To answer your Q - it is not powder coat but rather PPG urathane ( DCC9300 ) with flattening compound added.

More body
That's disgusting, danged over achievers.
Looks like the shifter has been moved back also, good idea. Wish there were some more pictures of the body. Maybe he would like to go to Ocala forest with us. Bet not.
Chuck - This one will not be for the back woods ( at least not for a few years ) It's been lowered so much it just be for the street . At some point I'd like to restore one for all around use (fire trails - fields - roads - beach etc.) Here is another shot of the body(in primer ) before I lowered it and glassed on side pods which I ordered from Winnie Meyers

Body Lift
WOW!! The pan has a better finish than my body!!
 Is it me or is that a bit of a body lift? Also there are bolts on the floor of the pan under the seat area which do not show under the car?
Mvovr No body lift - just a 1/2 by 1-1/2 reinforcement bar running along the outside edges of the pan . The bolts you see on the top side of the pan are for holding in amps for the radio . I tried to attach a photo but am having trouble - Still learning the computer thing
No Trailer Queen Here
my guess is that it will be a trailer queen
Jeremy, Definitely not going to be a trailer queen . I think trailer queens are amazing to see but I'd rather cruise than stress about dust .
Lens Filter
Major lens filters:eat: But WOW! If I had that I wouldn't drive it. Oh well show or go you decide.
Yes a lens filter would be nice . I finally got one so no more pea soup photos .
