Purple Original Manx?

Post by House »

I know of the Purple Potato Chip, but there seems to not be too many original Manx's with the 13E Purple Flake Gelcoat. Any thoughts? I have seen a few Classics, Siggys, Manxters, Knockoffs, etc. Was purple just not cool then, so not many were made?

Purple manx

Post by Rick Leddon »

I have had 4 or 5 Manx that were purple but had been repainted. I think some of the cool colors of the 1960's weren't popular in the following years and were changed. I have just bought a original purple metelflake Manx. It was one of those barn finds and is just the way it was in the 60's. I will post a picture when I get it delievered. Rick

[font=Comic Sans MS]Old "AsIs" original color was Purple Metal Flake. [font=Comic Sans MS]Since my friend that built her couldn't weld, he cut the body and fiberglassed the gap for a LWB. When he went to paint, he chose Gold Metal Flake and in the +20 years of sitting out in the weather, it looks more like a hazy drying out leave Green with dirty water spots. [font=Comic Sans MS] [font=Comic Sans MS]Still... She is a fun driver. Will have all 4 teen aged grandkids in June and they all want to take her for a drive, so will take them out to Corral Canyon OHV area and let them take turns. [font=Comic Sans MS] [font=Comic Sans MS]

I have one that originally was the metal flake purple. Someone before my daughter owned the Manx hit something real hard and screw up the front. Someone done a good job of fixing the holes but they painted it blue. I took that off and really liked the purple but with the front end damage and my lack of experience in jell coat it has now been painted yellow. Still fun to drive every day rain or shine. :driving:

I have often wondered why Meadowbrook dont do 13E in polyester jewels (E codes = metalflake & P codes = polyester jewels which shine brighter) Ive just mixed 71p and 10p together in the smaller jewels and sprayed a buggy mold,,, it looks good n purple,, will pop it out this weekend n see. Never did find a supplier for bright Yellow flake,,, that would be cool too.
