Cyl. stud thread hole

Post by jr_vw2 »

This is a new one to me. I am breaking down my stock 1600 (AH code) to build my 1915. And when I pulled the heads and jugs off I found what you see in the pic. The upper stud hole on the left does not ave a case saver in it and all of the others do. It also did not have the right lenght stud in it either. I think it would have the medium length stud in that hole. But it has the long studs hat you would find along the bottom of the cyl. If you look into the hole in is theaded about 1.5 inches into the case. can I just put a case saver into this hole and get the right lenght stud. or is this the corect set up. thanks guys

What you see is a deep studded #3 cylinder stud. It came from the factory that way.

is that good or bad? should I just leave it alone. because when I thread a stud into it there is a gap in between the stud and the case. Just seems like a weak link to me. thanks

VW deep studded #3 for more strength, there is a case saver deep in the case. Use it and like it :D
