Powder Coating Question

Post by MickeyUSA »

For anyone that has powdercoated the frame and/or front beam, I was wondering about the grease in the torsion tubes. Wash it out with some sort of solvent? I won't think that you would want to bake that in there. In the planning stages, so please bear with me.

all parts must be totally degreased before powdercoating.. They will run your parts thru several solutions to degrease. But you should get all the grease you can out of the tubes before hand.

I used a bottle brush with degreasing solvent to clean out the tubes then I used a pressure washer with degreasing solvent to finish it off.

Since I am using a Berrien Chassis - the front end attaches with 4 "clamps" around the tubes - the same way rail buggies do. My powder coater suggested that I NOT powder coat it - a while back, he did one on a rail buggy, where the chassis attached actually cracked the coating and negated the entire neat look. I just accepted that as fact - and just PCed some of the smaller parts. Just my :2cents:
