Toyota MR2 Seats

Post by flaboyjim »

Does anyone have experience cutting down the sliders for these seats to fit a buggy?? The seats are just the right width, but the slider needs to be narrowed - passenger side will fit with just cutting the inside mount off - drivers side has lumbar support adjustment that needs 1/4 inch more...... I would hate to start over - these recline, are leather, look new and were FREE!!!

Free is the best! I bought seats from the auto wrecker (Sunfire). Once I started to fit them I found a few problems. I ended up removing the VW tracks from the pan and building new crosspieces and mounting points for the Sunfire tracks. Having access to a shop with a welder was important.

Jim, can you snap a pic of your seat tracks? Maybe we can get a better idea of what's possible if we can see what you've got. I've fitted a few sets of junkyard seats into buggies, and have noticed that sometimes it's easier to mount the passenger seat on the drivers side, and visa-versa. I did this so I could still work the lumbar support and recliner, since they now are on the INSIDE of the buggy instead of in between the seat and the body.

Flaboyjim. I sympathise completely with your desire to fit MR2 seats into your buggy. I bought a set for my SR. They were exactly what I wanted. Minimalist for a car seat, small, light. adjustable, side support etc., etc. They would not fit easily and my engineer said that I was not to extensively modify the seat mountings, so I swapped them for a pair of seats from a Datsun 280ZX which have their runners closer together. They are nice but definitely a second choice. :x
