Different pulley sizes
Temp Gauge
Gee Bossman, :laugh1: I thought temperature gauges were for water cooled motors. I have never seen one on any old VW's around my area??? :hello: Jimbo

Mvovr, I'm not sure that a standard pulley cover would actually work out of the box using the BMD setup but then again I have never tried using this particular system with your normal pulley covers as I have used in the past on my other Manx buggies from the late 60's. Wish I still owned them today. :laugh1: Pennsylvania also did not require me to install a cover on my Manxter probably because of the Sidewinder exhaust and the rear bumper being behind the pulleys. I even took lots of pics from different angles of that specific area when applying for the Speciality Reconstructed Title here in PA. and they didn't flag anything. Talk about Lucky...!!! In order to install the BMD kit you need to remove the (2) stock studs on the front of the Gen/Alt. stand and replace them with the (2) longer studs provided in the kit. These longer studs are for mounting the Idler adjustment base using these two mounting points. Then the Idler wheel and adjustment block mount to this base and slide left or right for belt tensioning with a secondary bolt in the adjuster plate to tighten it to the base plate once the desired belt tension is achieved. Compaired to the OEM pulley setup...this BMD kit is also a lot quieter by compairson and although I'll be the first to admit that I'm usually crazy or at least people think I am, I still think that once installed on my 2007cc motor it ran a lot better and had faster rpm. Then again I'm running a 12lb. balanced/lightened flywheel for faster revs and Go, Go, Go..! One thing is for sure and that is I immediately noticed new engine sounds that I was not able to hear before as everything was a lot quieter once I went over to the BMD kit. Not that these new sounds that I heard were bad or anything...it was just nice to hear more of the internal workings of this new motor. I would have never guessed that changing from an OEM pulley setup over to this BMD setup would make so much difference in overall engine noise reduction.
