Are you planning on running the stock Tow'd gas tank.
The thing to check is the clearance between the tank and where the shift rod goes. On ours the shift rod runs under where the vin # is just like a stock bug to type 1 trans. There isn't much room to run the rod above it and have the rod fit under the tank.
There is a drop adapter to bring the shift rod down
Just another thing to think about and check.
Let me know if you would like to come by and check out the Tow'd

Yes the stock tank was the plan, I'm glad you pointed that out now, I checked and it doesn't clear the shifting shaft out of the trans. another road bump!
Mike when mine was last on the road we just bent the shift rod around under the tank , not much of a kink at all really , but way easier than modifing the tank
The problem was that the type 2 shift fork is higher then the type 1 for which the tow'd was designed, after some experimenting I think 1 was able to raise the tank enough to clear the type 2-type 1 shift adapter.
My Towdster has always had a bus box in it since i'vve owned it and will always , so yes i know your pain .
Only the other day were making templates for the new fuel tank in my car which won't be round as per stock but it will be a triangular shape which should give me an extra 15 to 20 litres of fuel capacity
You know Mike . . .Buellton will be here before you know it. Do you think you'll have it done? Heck we could get six or seven local club members over to your house with the promise of pizza and beer and turn that out overnight! Just say the word and I'll rally the troops!! (Uh, except not this weekend, I'm outta town. But after that, fill speed ahead!)

It's been awhile but I made some progress today, I got the kick panel fitted, then added some tabs for the front brake lines.
I am going to add frame horn supports up to the rear frame, does any body have some pictures and ideas on the distance apart on the top, I don't want to install them to find they interfere with anything else.
I'm also looking for ideas for the battery box and the IRS swingarms, not sure I like the original location.

I added supports when I built our Tow'd, the left side gets pretty close to the #3 exhaust pipe. You're more than welcome to come by
and take some measurements.

What's with the swiss cheese floor ??? , I will get you the dimensions of my yellow Towd for the supports , and why don't you just use a Odessy battery and lay it on it's side in the original spot , then just put a alloy cover over it !!!
