Engine ID and Carb info ?

[FONT=Comic Sans MS][FONT=Comic Sans MS]My recently purchased Burro has an engine number that I can?t identify. Can anyone help? The only book I have is a 2009 Empi parts manual and this engine number is not listed under any model. The number is stamped on the case half facing the case seam (left of the generator stand, not below facing aft. 00347972 there are no letters. The transmission is a RGB out of an early bus. Perhaps the engine came with it ???? Also, it has the tinest carburetor I have ever seen. It has a round float bowl that says Bocar 30-Pict ? 1. Anyone know anything about it ? [/FONT][/FONT]

Are you sure the first figure is a 0 and not D? If it's a D that would make it a 1200cc motor which could indeed have been from an early Bus. This is a useful table... http://www.partsemporium.co.uk/EngineCodes.htm

Engine cases with the ID number in that location were mostly from Type 3 cars. These could be used be used with the sheetmetal for an upright Type 1 installation. A lot of the cases were interchangeable and it is hard to tell what it is without taking it apart. A lot of different sizes look the same from the outside. The Bocar carb is an aftermarket replacement. Hope this helps. Richard

No idea on 'ohne' I'm afraid. Is the engine single or dual port? I suspect the only way to tell for sure what it is will be to take a cylinder head off and measure the bore and stroke. With the engine # in a wierd place it could've started life as an industrial spec. engine or something similar.

According to the 2009 Impi parts manual the engine is a Type III built between 8/69 and 7/70. Thanks for your help you pointed me in the right direction. Thanks again, Bob [/FONT][/FONT]

It'll be a 1600 dual port then, a good motor but if running with upright tinware it should probably have a 34pict 3 carburettor fitted, or better still duals... Bob, Glad to hear you found the whole number on the case. Is this engine going to mark its spot along the trail? Does it have single port or dual port heads? The 30PICT carb will work well for low speed cow trailing. More bottom end torque with it then something bigger. I don't think you really want to go real fast in a short wheel base burro with reduction box gearing.

Believe it or not it does not have a case of the drips... yet. I did get it up to 50mph once and it didn't seem to be working to hard. I would have pushed it harder but I didn't have a windshield at the time and I was freezing! In general I think it will work well for "Cow Trailing".[/FONT] [FONT=Comic Sans MS]As for the Manx, it got a new roll cage (not powder coated yet), new seat covers, bumpers and I want to add a tach.[/FONT] [FONT=Comic Sans MS]See you in 21 days.
