I was under the Manx checking CV bolts (looking for a clicking noise on the passernger side. Still didn't find it. May be a bad CV) and noticed that the new red CV boots have a small split in both of the outer ones. Doggone it, these are less than 2 years old and are only run on the street. Learned another hard lesson and ordered a set of OEM boots. The cool thing about them is that they come with hardware, new bolts, clips, etc. Gotta get everything ready for FunFest!

I was warned away from the colored boots because of that. And thought I bought good quality black boots but it turns out they were garbage. Where did you find the OEM boots and how much were they?

I ordered them from OEVEEDUB.COM. I haven't received them yet so I can't vouch for the quality. The local VW shop only sells the cheap junk I bought, red or black. They weren't labeled EMPI but they are definitely made in Taiwan. Here is the part number and price from OEVEEDUB.COM: 191-498-201D Axle Boot Kit, Rear - 68-79 [OEM] $14.99 each Have a good one...

Don't be shocked if the OEM rubber boots give up on you in the same amount of time. I had a set last just over a year before splitting. I got some HD poly ones from Empi that I was very happy with. They are the same thickness as the OEM rubber ones (about 1/4") and ran and ran without a problem. I switched from swing to IRS and after around 2 1/2 years they were still good. :drinking:
