Remember em guys?? They used to be offered for sale in Manx Mania,,,,, cant understand why Meyers ever stopped selling them,,, apart from the cute looks, they are real practical. The way the headlamps sit a little lower and closer together looks so right IMO,, such a small detail thing, but enough to make me buy (what I think was) the very last one. Out of interest, how many guys on here bought one back then?

I remember them and thinking it was a great idea!!!! Seems like I asked Winnie about them a while back and she told me that they were produced by someone else and the Manx club just sold them. Sounds like if Bruce gets around to a new short Manx/Manxter that it would have an opening hood. This could all be crap......but its what I remember.

I asked Bruce about it at Lone Pine and he said the new SWB will have an opening hood. It will also have a closable storage compartment in the rear seat area

Here's the piccies Mel. Image Image I always thought that the opening hood was a left-over from an aborted Buggy that Bruce started to work on before he made the Siggy series. I seem to remember some photos that Chad showed me from '97 or '98. Maybe I'm wrong though...I usually am!!! The only reason I didn't fit an opening hood on my tangerine Manx was what to do with the original headlight mountings on the body? If I left them on they'd look stupid and if I cut them off I'd never match the gel coat...Doh!!!
Here's the piccies Mel, quality's a bit crap tho, you using your phone or something??? Dave, phone cameras are far too technical for me,, those pics were taken with my latest steam powered model  cant make that out, they look fine on my monitor  Anyway guys, you get the idea, that was the one I bought from Meyers years back,, has an inner molding that you cant see in the pics,,, its for reinforcing which runs accross the back end of the hood & right down to where the headlamps fix through. The hinges are stainless steel. The quailty of mine is real good,, layed up by hand using woven GRP. They look a lot better (when Fitted) if you cut off & reglass up the original headlamp mounts on the fenders (wings). If anyone could post up some early ''front end snap-shots'' of Meyers Red Quadri- from the mid to late 90s,, your see just how cute those hood mounted headlamps look

Your right Dave, those original headlamp mounts do look stupid when using the lifting hoods,,, you should have said mate,, I made up two resin castings that used to drop in the mold where the original mounts went,, so you could have had a smooth (no headlamp mount) fender from the molds. Bit late now :o

You weren't making the opening hoods when I bought my Manx II Mel, you showed me the one you had just got off Bruce and also the original side-pods when I collected my kit but you hadn't moulded them yet. Do you still have the moulds for the opening hood or did Rob get them?

Yeh Dave, I remember now,, that was the early days,, you had the very first gel-coated UK Manx (02),,,, 01 was a painter. That white hood in the pics was the one you saw back then, and was used to take molds from,, still got the original Hardtop & drop down dash that were also used to mold from. No molds now ,, just the original (made in USA) parts that I've kept for old time sake. You know the crazy thing about all this,, is I wanted a Meyers Manx probably more than any other guy in UK back in the 90s,, But I forgot to make one for myself :(

I seem to remember those 'US made' sidepods had an 'Hecho in Mexico' (made in Mexico) sticker on them!!! God bless Bruce's wetbacks!!!!
Does anybody make/sell these opening hoods today?
Best speak to Bruce & Winnie,,, when I bought my lifting hood off them, they had just stopped advertising them in Manx Mania,, but they still managed to get one for me. Even if they are not interested in selling them again maybe they can put you in touch with the (USA) guy who has the molds. Good Luck!

Called and asked while ordering side pods. Was directed back to the classifieds on these forums. If anybody knows of a source, I'd be interested to hear it. Thanks!

Thanks!
Im supprised you cant get more help in locating one or finding the guy who molded them in USA,,,, someone on here must know :help: My lifting hood cant be the only Meyers sold surely  if you can loan one from someone & know a few other guys that would also like one maybe it would be worth taking a mold from it and giving the owner some $$ for its loan. Would love to help you out myself but have no intentions of re-molding it & mailing one to USA, but if all else fails, and you ever find yourself in England,,, you just never know :D Good Luck finding one.
