how big can you go?

Post by 90volts »

just wanted to see what the largest tire size is practical on a standard type manx or clone. I am looking at 31X10.5X15. i have heard that the size will work but I am looking at M/Ts. adds a bit with the tread depth. anyone else run them? wanted to find out before running out and getting them, maybe this weekend. keeping what i've got now for street and sand. looking at these for trails and mud.

I am using a tire that says on sidewall it is 31in tall. Actual measurement is 29.4in. Not all tires are the size that printed on them. I switch to the short torsion bars so that tire would clear spring plate. Remember tire is the final drive gear, if you go to a larger diameter tire you may have to change your transmission gearing to be able to use it. I had to change 3rd and 4th gears.

i've got 28 inchers on there now. 275/60X15s. not too worried about 3rd and 4th. the plan is just for trail riding, nothing that fast. but of course i will probably end up keeping them on and having to run out to the store or something and use it on the street anyway. :x but its not the plan! :D now that you've mentioned that i'll see if i can get them to get up and measure them for me before heading down.

I run 31 10.5 15 mud tyres on my buggy. They are good in most types of terrain. They are really good in mud and gravel. They do tend to dig down into soft sand. The secret in sand is to run really low pressure with these. I usually run about 5 - 8 psi in mine. On the highway they are great too, top gear is great on the freeway.
