Had the Manx aligned today,no problems with the front but they said they couldn't do the rear wheel alignment due to the wide tires.Assuming that was the case, how can you align the rear on a swing axle so the wheels are tracking straight?I didn't find anything in the other posts so am looking for any ideas, methods, etc. that I can use,any info will be appreciated,Dave B :help:

I would think the allignment would be the same with wide tires as it would with stock width unless the rims are bent. You can tell a lot with a tape measure and a couple straight edges.

My Manx works well on the alignment rack with 8" wide rear wheels. We found with 10" wide wheels the equipment won't work. When we aligned my friend's buggy we put my rear tires/wheels on it. You are just setting the toe on the rear axle anyway but it makes a big difference in drivability when it's correct.

What is the proper toe in on a rear swing axle?

Check the spring plates and where they bolt to the rear axle assembly for notches. If they are there and they are not alligned then allign them and you should have returned the rear end to what you want. When you get the rear end alligned, notch the spring plate and the axle assembly, top and bottom, with a cold chissel and a big hammer, a hacksaw or an anglegrinder. Then you can reassemble it correctly without any worries.

The problem was the 10" rims and tires, their alignment rig wasn't picking up the difference in the stance. If I can find a couple of VW rims and tires for the rear I'll mount them to get it aligned.I mounted adj.swing arms so there were no marks to go by.Thanks for the replies.
