Im saving up for it. Btw, I dont like cars with rust so yeah very min rust would be ok. And I dont care of what kind of transmition or color as well. -Eric p.s. from what years did the vw beetle have the split rear window. btw there's no way your going to get a split window for 500. I don't think you could even get the glass for that much. Any ways for 500 to get a car with minimal rust I would shoot for one that is non-running and then hope you just need to tune it a little bit. Watch ebay and look for something close to you. I got a baja off ebay with close to no rust that needed a motor and electrical work for $204. So there out there but you'll need to keep you eye open. Also look in the classifieds on the samba there are some really good deals there as well. I would also like to say welcome to the addiction!:D

Eric I have one I could let go . See Photos below . It's a bit hard to tell but it's not a split window (more like a split roof ) . It's a convertible that I bought locally for the motor - pan and registration . But with a bit of tweeking you could have a nice ride . I paid 400.00 for it and will let it go for that only cause I'm getting too much stuff in the storage barn.
p.s. from what years did the vw beetle have the split rear window. I know this is a meyers manx fourm but aisnt the vw/ myers manx similar?
FYI, Split rear windows were available up to 1953. For under $500, you couldn't afford real taillights. Ovals were 1954-1957. Small windows were 1958-1964. Large windows from 1965 up. Supers came out in 1971, they're identified by strut front suspension, and a spare that lays flat. IRS started in 1968 (automatic only). VW used swingaxle transmissions before then. King-pin front ends were available up to 1965, went to Balljoint after that. Yes, a Meyers Manx and Split window beetle are almost identical, except for the body.

Old Towd, that looks like a good deal!

There are LOTS of Bajas all over Southern Cali. Keep you eyes open and you should be able to pick one up pretty cheap. I think you would be money ahead to by one that someone has grown tired of. Good luck!
