Subaru to VW Bellhousing

Post by CairoManx »

I came across this webpage for a UK company that makes replacement bell housings that allow the direct mounting of Subaru engines to VW 091 and 094 transaxles without using an adapter plate. I sounds like there's lots of advantages like using all stock Subaru flywheel, and starter. The looks better than a Kennedy adapter too. Anybody seen this in person? http://www.rjes.com/index.html

They allow you to use a stock Subaru Flywheel, and clutch along with the stock subaru starter motor. This will mean you have no clutch or starter motor issues and the conversion looks factory. Not to mention the benifit of off the shelf parts. Richard has put a lot of time and effort into these and they work very well.
I purchased a Subaru 2.2L SOHC engine, wire harness and everything else needed to make it run. It is a non-turbo engine with 135hp and 143ftlbs of torque. To keep things simple I plan to install the radiator in the stock location to the engine putting it in the rear. The attached pictures are of a CAD model created in Solid Works. Any suggestion appreciated. More info at: http://www.specificdesign.com/dune_buggy_subaru.htm
Ok just remember you are going to have an EJ22 in there with an exhaust hanging out so you will start to push your cage backwards. Also keep in mind that the air flow at the rear of your buggy is not very good at all and you will be working very hard to keep it cool without the fan on. Add to that if you put a soft top on the air flow will change again. I have a few mtes building EJ 2 powered buggies at the moment and they are going to put the radiators at the rear and see how they go, they will be using a custom scoop to get some air flow.
