Manx SR #1001

Post by CairoManx »

There's a Manx SR listed on Samba with serial #1001. The seller says its a 1968. According to the Manx SR webpage, Meyers made the SR from Mar 70 to Dec 70. They say most SRs have serial numbers like the Manx with letters and numbers to tell the date of mfg. However, they also have some with 4 digit numbers, like with the last Manx 2s after Bruce left the company. http://manxsr.com/everthing_sr.htm http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=474217 Image

The register says the 4 digit serial numbers on a Manx 2 means it was a late car. However, it says a 4 digit serial number on a Towd or Manx 2 mean its early. There's one Towd on the register that has the very next serial number after a Manx 2. That makes me think the company put sequential numbers on whatever they produced, regardless of whether it was a Manx 2, Towd or SR. That makes me think 4 digit numbers on a Towd or SR mean also mean its late.
