Idaho?
Whats it like there guys? My 18 year old daughter wants to go on holiday there. Is it the kinda place for an 18 year old?
Lots of mountains, rivers, parks. Sun Valley area is real nice. Its an old European style mountain resort the railroad built in the 30s to attract tourists. There are other places just as spectacular and more remote. Is she planning on going backpacking in the mountains? http://www.visitidaho.org/placestogo/

Wow, that looks more my kinda place. Katy (daughter) would be more for the amusement parks & riding around in the passenger seat of a 59 Caddy rag top taking in the sights ,,,,, I dont see her as the Backpacking type. She met up with some guys from Idaho that are working local to her in UK,,, they are going back home in a few weeks and asked if she would like to visit them for a holiday. Will show her that site,, looks a great place. Thanks.

I just checked the shape of Idaho on the map and it should be OK. I just remember them saying something on my favorite TV show; The West Wing, that you've got to watch out for some of the 'square' states in the middle, they can be a bit dodgy; too far from the sea as well...
"Wise men talk because they have something to say, fools because they have to say something." (Plato)
There was a great little movie a year or so back called Napoleon Dynamite. It was a huge sleeper hit. It was filmed by a couple of very talented young guys in a small town in southern Idaho. The town is just across the state line from Utah. The area is really more like Utah than Idaho. If that's where she's headed she ought to see the movie. Do the two young men who work local to your daughter and invited her for a holiday wear white shirts, walk or bike around the town together and are they exceptionally clean cut and polite? If the answer is yes, I'd say there's probably nothing wrong with her going for a holiday. However, if she was headed to southern Utah or northern Arizona, the St George area specifically, I'd say no way in hell!

Will tell Katy about that movie. The place she is planning on going is Idaho Falls. The American guys (about 7 of them) Katy & her boyfriend have been hanging out with, work for Idaho Steel,, they've been meeting up most nights in the pub/hotel,, in fact shes out socializing with them as we speak. She bought home some pics last night,,, no white shirts,, all seem to have beards of some type and the superviser rides a Harley,, does that sound good or bad?. Who is comedian, Roy D Mercer? not heard of him in UK,, yet,, The Americans told her he's a real funny guy.

Red-necks are totally cool. The group in the Utah area that you want her to steer clear of are the Polygamous Mormon Fundamentalists. They've been known to abduct girls and force them into marriage, usually its a cousin though. Your daughter is 18 so she's kind of old for them. They like to marry them at around 13 or 14. They also frequently throw their sons out of the family at about 16. Less competition for the young girls. They're mostly in southern Utah. In some of the towns the homeless boys live in groups. They call them Lost Boys.

Back in the late 70's early 80's I was working for a building company,, one of our jobs was building a new Mormon Church in South East London (nr Blackheath) a lot of the workforce there were UK Mormons,,, I found them real nice easy going people,, allways willing to help & hard working,, but none of them had a clue how to build,, they just seemed to get in the way,,,,bless em!. At tea/coffee/beer breaks they would not touch the stuff,,, they used to drink something called Buttercup :help: I know she will be safe now,, as these guys spend a lot of time in the pub :drinking: This is how crazy my daughter is,,,, the other night she told me that she said to the American guys,,,,, ''Michael Meyers the buggy racer guy came & stayed with us in UK a few years back,,,, have any of you guys heard of him?''
with tears of laughter in my eyes,, I replied ,, ''dont you mean Bruce Meyers?'' ,,,, ''HO'' she said,, ''what did the guys say'' I replied,,, ''one of them said he has heard of that guy, racing in Baja'' Seems some of those red-necks watch too many Horror Movies just like Katy,,, no wonder they get on so well
True Story.

If she is into sand dunes St Anthony have to be the best in North America from my prospective. Yellow stone is just up the road from there. Gran Tetons, Jackson Ho , kick ass fire works in Wyoming. Southern Idaho kind of smells bad. Cody Wyoming is worth the visit. Just like everywhere there is good and bad.
