Just cut them out down to the floor and be done with it. If you are happy to add a 6 point cage then you can get the strength back and not even have the sides. The other option is side bars along the endge of the seat to the front pillar. The main thing you are trying to do is give the strength back...

The KG Disc brakes that you refer to off the BJ front end are what a lot of the world have on the VW Bug from factory. They will bolt straight on to the VW Type 1 Beam from Bug without issues. Well the dust has begun to settle and the car has been cleaned. Hey All; I'm going to need to remove the ID plate for body work and making a mold. Are the rivets used by Meyers anything special? I know the some of the ID plates on older cars used a special rivet, but since the body isn't registered with the DMV can just a regular aluminum rivet be used? Thanks ...
