My Manx II from France

Post by chax »

Hi !

I just bought this 1971 Manx 2 that seems to be an original one.

Image

Actually, the buggy is still on his way to France by ship. It was listed for a while when I found it on ebay.

Image

It is almost completely restored, but the seller has run out of time
and money and the cost for an original Manx here in France and the
dollar price made interesting to get it imported.

Image

Anyway, it has those two pairs of front turn signals.

Would someone tell me which is the correct pair for the period ?

Thanx !

I think it always has been common to adapt as many original Beetle parts as possible to a buggy body since the original builder had an entire car to use for parts. It was more economical for the builder to use turn signals etc. from the Beetle, so I think the lights on top of the fenders are never wrong.

Congrats on your find of a Meyer Manx buggy. It this your first dune buggy?

Yes both places where the turn signals are mounted are correct. It just not look right with both turn signals lights like that.

I prefer the the lower mounted ones. To me it just make the look of the lines of the buggy look cleaner.

Most common one used for the lower one where off a English car, something like a MG? Another one that was used are the ones off a Ghia.

One member here used type III bullet turn signals that he cut the housing to fit the body.

I also like the turn signals mounted in the lower position. The other issue I ran into with the mounting the lights on top of the fenders is that the electrical connection hangs below the fender and gets broken as the tire hits bumps.

The restoration has begun, at last ! I had to find a new mechanic because the first one didn't do anything in one year, but the new one is pretty good.

We found four old paintings under the actual blue : two other blue, one white and one black ! But the gel coat is well "peacock blue" like told by the vin number, and that's the color it will be back in a few months.

I believe that the 16E Peacock Blue Metallic Jewels are no longer available.

Meadowbrook has converted all of the old metalflake jewels to non-metal products.

Thank you for your answer.

I've sent a mail one year ago, but didn't get any answer, and my spoken english isn't fluent enough to call them on the phone.

I've sent a new mail. I hope I'll get an answer.
