Vw fan shroud question
Vw fan shroud question
After having unsatisfactory cooling in my buggy from poorly made Chrome / Taiwan fan shroud, I made a trip to the local Pick ur Park and purchased a stock one. When I removed it I noticed there was a sheet metal attachment to the doghouse area, which looks like it directs the flow of air down after it passes thru the oil cooler. 1. Is this necessary or was it designed for the bug? 2. Does it help with an exposed engine at all? Thanks Paul
That particular piece of tin is used to direct the hot air from the oil cooler down and out of the Beetles engine compartment. The engine compartment in a Beetle is sealed in such a way that all the hot cooling air is blown out the bottom of the car and because the engine compartment is sealed the heat cannot be drawn back into the cooling fan. Should you run it on an engine in a buggy? All I can say is that I don't, and haven't. I don't think it has caused me any problems in the 25 or so years I have run my engines without all the tin installed.
