Bearing buddys ???

Post by billloftin »

Has anyone tried putting grease fittings in the rear trailing arm? The Thing has them in both bearing housings. I am not sure if this is a good idea. Please comment. What brand of CV grease are you using?

Thanks

Bill,
People do things to make it simpler does not always make it right.   If you do use a grease gun to lube the trailing arm bearings where will the old grease go?
Out the seals and into area where brake shoes are, or?
Rear wheel bearings are just like front wheel bearings and need to be inspected and re-greased from time to time depending on usage.
If you really don't want to or can't do the job, you need to find someone to do it for you.
Having to do a trail repair because someone did not want to do preventive maintenance is really no fun for the rest of the group.

I use NEO Synthetic or Swepco for CV grease.   CV's are another item that your really want to take apart and inspect and not just pump new grease into.
And you never what to get any amount of grease into CV boots as this can cause them to deteriorate from the inside.
