002 transmission ID

Post by manxvair »

I'm trying to ID the year of this 002 trans I picked up. The stamped numbers don't fit the standard format and it has a different type of main shaft seal then the '73 I picked up.
Thanks.

The
1 on the right (clean, painted 1) is the 1 I'm trying to ID, The 1 on
the left has been ID'd as a Dec 72, The difference  is the main seal and
the 72 has 2 sending units in the nose cone while the other only has 1
sending unit on the side of the nose cone.

That bell housing is a 1971yr only.  If it had mounting ears on the top it would be for a 1972 or later.
The other bell housing is for a 1969 or 1970 since it uses early style of TO bearing.
The shift housing with a extra switch on the front is for a vacuum control valve for the advance on a distributor.  I think it was 1974 when it came out.
As you can see parts get changed around since Bus transmission are around 40 years old.  It not uncommon with what you are seeing.

I found out I have a very disirable 4.86 ring and pinion I found in one of my core transmissions.  It is a 3rib and was expecting to find a 5.38 ring and pinion since it was in a the early case.

You just never know what someone has done in the past.
