Pretty shady fake Manx on ebay...

Is there a dedicated section to warn of potential buyers of shady sales?

ebay item #: 251167280988

I think if you just ask the seller a question, then it shows up in the ad for everyone to see (maybe?). I would ask him about the hood since it doesn't look like a Manx hood (not smooth). Also ask about the license plate hump which looks too big from the ones that I have seen. Might see if he will post a picture of the stiffening tubes. This is all just based on a pretty small amount of knowledge of what these things should look like. On the other hand, maybe #18 was special.

The seller added a small paragraph at the bottom of the ad.

"On Oct-16-12 at 07:07:49 PDT, seller added the following information:

It has come to my attention that my buggy may not be an original Manx buggy. I just bought and finished it and this was my first and did not know anything about them. Paper work and badges came with the machine. That being said, it is still a beautiful car and it runs great. Sorry for the confusion."

My questions are where did the certificate of authenticity and dash badge come from? Who was the P.O. of #18 that got it certified? Has it even been certified? Where is car #18? Are Bruce and Winnie aware of this and are there any photos of #18 around to compare? Is the P.O. of #18 (ore anyone else) selling knock-offs of the certs? I smell lots of trouble for the buggy world if people are knocking off certificates of authenticity.

Hey;

I just don't get how this clone got authenticated as a Manx. The Meyers folks say that they thought it was a little fishy, but they gave out a certificate and a set of badges to this or the previous yahoo. How did that happen? I had to send pictures in of the hood (his is OBVIOUSLY not a Manx hood) and of the rear (his is OBVIOUSLY not a Manx rear) to get FULSGLD authenticated years ago. So what is different about this NEW authentication process that allows this to happen?

Hey Gary, I'm betting pictures of a real Manx were sent in, and then the badges were  affixed to a different car. Unfortunately, events like this may make in-person inspections a requirement in the future.  It's sad that people are STILL trying to profit unjustly off of what Bruce created.
