Information revision 08/22/2013 GPS Tracking Ability

After 10/09/2013 you will be able to track the progress of C2C as the 'Safari" makes it's way across the USA. There will be at least 3 SPOT trackers embedded in the caravan, and will provide almost live (every 10 minutes) GPS position reports. The display links will be posted by 10/06/13, on this site in a separate thread. The recorded data from each SPOT device will remain available for 1 week from the time the data was transmitted by the individual SPOT. Additionally, there will be at least 2 additional SPOTS tracking vehicles that approach MOTB from other locations.

Here is a link to a SPOT that should be on as the driver wanders around on his/her daily activities.

For those members desiring to "join up" with C2C as it progresses you will need to figure out what day & time we will be at a certain point on the route. Your best bet will be at the 7:00am start for each day. We just cannot tell the exact time that anyone will be making a stop during the day.
Perhaps, we will have some better ideas next week to assist you in locating the group during the driving hours.

================================================================================================
Saturday August 17, 2013

The 2013 “Sea to Sea Safari” (C2) will be a 7 day/6 night 2800 mile, extended trip across the USA.
The C2C will depart from the San Diego area at 7:00am on Thursday, October 10, 2013, and will arrive in Nags Head, NC late in the afternoon of Wednesday, October 16, 2013. There are several individuals who are attempting to keep all postings coordinated, however there may be some discrepancies in posting.

There is a map of the C2C route posted below.
This is a generalized map of the latest proposed route from the San Diego, CA. area to Nags Head, NC.
Below is the anticipated general information for each day. We are attempting to drive 375 to 425 miles each day.

At this time the final arrangements as far as overnight stops have not been determined.
The C2C team is waiting for additional information from several hotel/motels along the route.
Please check the time stamps on any C2C information posted.
Once the overnight stops are finalized there will be a block of rooms in the listed hotel/motel for participants to make their own reservations against. Everyone will be on their own to make these reservations and obtain the negotiated rate for the night.
Keep in mind that the next day will begin from the specific hotel/motel listed for that date.

Generally speaking the route will be: I-8E, I-10E, US-70N, I-40E, US-64, NC RT-12.

There will be a driver information packet passed out to all who begin the C2C in San Diego, the evening prior to departure.
As of August 15, 2013 there have been 13 club members indicate that they will be driving in C2C in some way. There have been another 6 members who have indicated their desire to 'join-up' along the route.
Some will be driving their buggy, some will be towing the buggy, some will join in at different points along the way.
Some members will only be with C2C for a couple of hours, and some will be together for the entire 2800 miles. If you plan to meet us along the route, be advised that it might be difficult to do. Due to the ability of the vehicles there will be a very stretched out group, and different fuel capacities. There will also be vastly different driving styles & times. All of this combines to make it impossible to say exactly where we will be at any time of the day. When the hotel/motel list is available we can provide a definite start and end location for a specific day.

Revision 003 - May 8, 2013
Corrected on 5-9-13 jrs
There have been a few minor adjustments to the route this week. The path of the route remains the same,
there are some different overnight locations, that will result in a different motel in different locations and
possibly make the trip a day or two shorter. The new plan has a average miles per day of 463 miles, This
should be easier for all participants.
Here is the new proposal.

Day 1-Thurs, October 10, 2013 - Mission Bay, San Diego, CA to Tucson, AZ - 423 miles -- 10 hours
Day 2- Fri, October 11, 2013, Tucson, AZ to Roswell, NM.- 460 Miles -- 10 Hours
Day 3- Sat, October 12, 2013, Roswell, NM to Oklahoma, OK - 469 Miles -- 10 Hours
Day 4- Sun, October 13, 2013, Oklahoma City, OK to Memphis, TN - 466 Miles -- 10 Hours
Day 5- Mon, October 14, 2013, Memphis, TN to Asheville, NC - 500 Miles -- 11 Hours
Day 6- Tue, October 15, 2013, Asheville, NC to Nags Head, NC - 448 Miles -- 10 hours

Total Miles 2778

Driving Hours 56

Average Driving Speed 50MPH

*Edit by S. Drolet on 5/8/2013 - Changed start date to Thursday, Oct. 10th, beginning in San Diego, CA., plus there will be one more
stop TBD between Memphis and Nags Head.

Revision 002-May 01, 2013
No changes this week

=============================================================
Revision 001 April 23, 2013

OK, here's the proposed route which is open to discussion. This is just a starting point.

At 08:00am, the group will leave Mission Bay, San Diego, Ca. on the I-8, and head over to
the Tucson, Az. area to spend the night. On Monday we will drive on I-10 to Alamogordo,
NM and stop for the evening. From Alamogordo, NM. We will angle northeast to Amarillo,
TX and pickup I-40. We take I-40 until we hit the US-64 at Raleigh, NC, and take that
straight into Nags Head, NC. The route is relatively flat, and with the longest day's drive
being 500 miles, it should be achievable at a highway speed of 62-ish mph, which will drop
down to an overall average of about 52 MPH with gas and rest stops. Still, it'll be 11 to 12
hour driving days.

We'll be leaving the hotel every morning at 6:00am or 6:30am.

Special thanks to Scott Drolet, Joe Spittler, and Vincent & France Parisien for collaborating and sharing
their knowledge for this project.
