Scott - does your Manxter have a Stinger or Redline ECU?  Stinger would have been done by Outfront and Kevin at Mendeola likes the Redline.  I would get it looked at long before the trip, you don't need problems in "the middle of nowhere".   We used 3/4 - 1" thick foam with a sticky side from McMaster Carr to seal the dahs to the windshield surround.  Had to make small cuts to clear the windshield wiper arms.  It also stopped a lot of the rattles.  Tom

In the July 2013 issue of Hot Rod Magazine, there is a nice write up of a reverse trip
of the C2C Safari that was run as a single vehicle going from Nashville, TN to Los
Angeles, CA last January.  The vehicle used was a channeled Deuce Roadster, no top,
no side curtains, just the roadster & a solo driver, for a 5 day run along I-40.

The C2C run should be a piece of cake compared to this.

Hi Tom, the ECU is an EMS model 6860, which is made by the same company that produces the Stinger.  The engine came from Outback, so that would make sense. I'm going to change the fuel filter and run some injector cleaner through the tank first. If I can't see a noticeable improvement from that, I'll find somebody to look at the program.

Joe, sounds like a great write-up. I'm looking forward to reading about it!

Here's a link to the video about that trip

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P-oTjcYlxYw

Also these are the latches I used to hold the dash down to prevent rattles. I also used them on the engine cover to hold it in place.
On the dash I placed one on both sides of the gauge pod
http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=60307&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&storeId=11151&storeNum=50692&subdeptNum=50701&classNum=50704#.UZERo8u9KSM

When dad and I took the manxter on the mojave road we noticed a cold draft coming in from under the dash. Since the dash has a lip on it cold air would shoot right at your legs. We ended up stuffing extra clothes between the dash and the gauges to prevent the draft. Surprisingly that worked well.

First: my God, I thought travelling in October would be bad, but that poor guy really got slammed!  What an eye-opener.  I think our trip should go 100% better, especially since we're all working on getting some type of top on our cars.
Great suggestion about the latches . . .I ordered a pair today. Between those parts and Tom's suggestion to add adhesive-coated padding, I should be able to eliminate the rattles and drafts. Thanks Doran!

I added a topic under the "Where Did You Get That?" with some pictures and part numbers for the top latch.

Hi!  I'm putting together a web microsite which will be linked to this page announcing various details about the Sea-to-Sea Safari, including live posts and updates during the run. One of the sections will be "Sea-to-Sea Rides" which is a place to post pictures of the cars and drivers that will be joining in along the route. What I'd like to collect is:
  1. Your name
  2. Manx Club member number (in the words of Bob Hunter: I gotta have it)
  3. Year, make and model of your buggy.
  4. Engine information (VW, Corvair, Subi, Ecotec, etc.)
  5. Where along the route you'll be joining in the procession.
  6. How many stops / miles /states you'll be traveling along with the caravan (or if you're just driving in to join up for dinner one night).
  7. A picture of you and your buggy (or just you, or just your buggy, whatever you're comfortable having posted online ).
  8. Anything else you'd like to offer! (you live along the route and would be willing to help with repairs/ parts / shelter, you're towing a trailer and have room to carry parts and supplies, etc.)
Please send me the above information to me in a Yuku PM, or to scottdrolet@live.com and I'll get working on the site.

Thank You!

Great Day at the Classic today!  A lot of people stopped by the booth and we signed up five new members for the club . . . Even the C2C Artist, Lemorris Harris, dropped by and signed banners for the Sea-to-Sea Safari, and, oh yeah, and some other guy, Bruce Something-or-rather Image

Love the artwork... Can't wait for the trip, even though I'll only be with it for the last leg.

I'll call you Brad. They run about $40 for the 4ft. or $55 for the 6ft.  This was a sample banner. The "real" banner will have sponsor logos on them the next go 'round.
