FINAL CALL! Manx Club Buellton run

Post by jsturtlebuggy »

Since this run is only a few months away, should we start making our own reservations or has the club blocked out a certain part of the park?

FINAL CALL! Manx Club Buellton run

Post by Scott-Drolet »

Excellent question Joseph!

Actually, the Club has a reserved block of 60 full hookup premium spots at a 20% discount off their usual rates.  The spaces will rent for $50.71 (which includes the 12% lodging tax) per night.  Please wait until the flyer comes as it will include all of the details you need to make reservations directly through our wagonmaster, Connie Breedlove. The flyer's should be in the mail in a of couple weeks.

Now, if some of you want to reserve a hotel room, by all means do so. We have convinced Pea Soup Andersen's Inn that you all are a respectable crowd, so they are holding a very small number of rooms for us at the very special rate of $99- + 12% lodging tax per night. The usual rate for that time of the season is $128-  + tax per night.  Just tell them you're with the Manx Club to get that rate. Also, please post back if the room allocation is used up . . .I may be able to talk them into adding more rooms, or find a competing host hotel with good reviews in the same vicinity.

Thank you!

FINAL CALL! Manx Club Buellton run

For anyone wanting to stay an extra nights at Flying Flags, the rate on Wed, Thurs or Sun is $46.60 (including the tax).  I don't think this information is on the flyer, but want you to know that Flying Flags is giving us this discount for extra nights.

Also - for those who like a good pavement run, the Buellton/Solvang pavement run is going to be great!  For those who enjoy the off road runs, there will be plenty of dirt for you too!  Either way, you'll have a great time!

Looking forward to seeing you there!

If you are coming to Buellton and have the equivalent of a Forest Adventure Pass or California Senior Pass (red poppies) or any other multiagency equivalent, you might want to bring it. We are working on adding a 4th run that is in an area where a forest adventure pass or similar is required. The trails may still be closed so early in the spring, but ya never know!

The Senior Pass with the Poppies on the front is actually a National Park and Federal Recreational Lands Pass.  They are available for those 62 years of age and older for $10 in person, $20 if processed by mail.  The earlier version of this pass is the Golden Age Passport.

Regarding tent camping at Flying Flags.  Yes, you can tent camp, but you do need to make your reservations with them directly for tent camping.  Please do tell them you're with the Manx Club though.

To Old Towd - We will be going on two runs that have off-road portions.  I think they are about 50/50 pavement/dirt. Fortunately the roads that "get to the dirt" are perfect buggy roads - winding and scenic with lots of variety.  One run will be to Figueroa Mountain, Figueroa Peak, Zaca Ridge and the Catway OHV trail.  The second run has more rural highway driving to get to it, but eventually follows the old stagecoach route, a lunch stop at the stagecoach tavern and an amazing ridge route (dirt) road with views of Lake Cachuma and the Las Padres / Dick Smith Wilderness on one side and the Pacific on the other from 4600'.  On a clear day you can see all 4 of the Channel Islands.  The pavement run will be 108 miles of meandering through wine country back roads, farm fields, flower fields, lunch in historic Orcutt, a fun run over a "haunted" mountain pass, a trip out to the beach (if we have time) and a return via some of the prettiest country on the Central Coast.

There will not be an extreme run in Buellton.  Those types of trails have been closed due to the massive Santa Barbara fires, followed by flooding & slides a couple of seasons ago.

We are very much looking forward to introducing the Manx Club to the Central California Wine Country.

Good to know that there are still rooms available with them. We have 70 buggies registered so far and as of Monday night, had 13 RV spaces left.

The Buellton Run is a tremendous success. We've already hit 105 buggies, 67 RV spots, 4 cabins, some number of tent campers, and 203 dinners.

I cannot stress this enough:

In order to avoid certain disappointment, your registration and check need to hit Connie's mailbox by this Thursday.  WE CANNOT GUARANTEE ANY SPACES WILL BE LEFT AFTER THIS THURSDAY. We have already gone over our 60 space allotment, and Flying Flags has graciously opened up a few more spaces for our use.

I'm begging you to please mail your registration and payment tomorrow. Otherwise, I'm afraid you will be shut out of this event. Please don't let that happen! Image

Thank you!  And see you all in Buellton!

Final tally was 122 buggies! That is absolutely amazing for an inaugural run. It was a smashing success with three dirt runs and one street run on Saturday, and a street cruise on Sunday. With individual side trips to Solvang, Nojoqui fall, Los Osos, Lompoc and the beach, there was something for everybody. The Forrest Service was very pleased with us, as well as the RV park. With everyone raving about all the fun that they had, this will most likely become an annual event. A heartfelt thanks goes out to Connie and Lynn, as well as the entire club staff. I can't wait for next year!
