2017 NORRA Mexican 1000

Post by manxvair »

The dates have been released! It's time to mark the calender's. They've added an additional day of racing by breaking the first stage into 2 days. previously day 1 covered Ensenada to Bahia De Los Angeles(Bay of LA) roughly 433 miles, this was usually a long day and didn't leave much time that night to make any repairs. They will now go from Ensenada to San Felipe on day 1 and San Felipe to Bay of LA on day 2. Either way this is an experience of a lifetime. It is also the 50th anniversary of this event. So if you've ever thought about attending this event mark your calendar, I'm sure there will be a lot of interest from MC members.

I've also posted a few times on the Race-Dezert thread, I really hope NORRA does something to encourage vintage iron as it would be really neat to get more vehicles like the originals out and participating. I've participated every year since 2012 with my Early Bronco teammates and it seems like vintage iron gets smaller and smaller.

If I understand it correctly, I think for bikes they have had a $1967 race fee and then perhaps included free Mag-7 fuel support....if they did that for the Manx class that would for sure be a strong level to support more historical vehicle participation.

We had zero Manx (or clones) last year and that was a shame.

I will be eagerly waiting until the September 15 registration date to see what they are going to do for the fee structure.

Mike, staying on the Baja topic but a tangent....what front shocks are you running?

I haven't bought mine for my '69 BJ front end...bilstein is a sponsor and has been around for ever....I like them supporting vintage racing. I'm thinking of going with this reservoir shock up front...

Thoughts from you or the general forum guys?

I'll be running fox on mine, they're already set for the suspension package.

Sexy sexy!

Surely other forum and club members are watching this NORRA 2017 thread.....anyone out there thinking of making the trip to Ensenada for the start or even better to entering the rally?

I've been spending WAY more on my build budget than I got spousal approval for but I'm hoping I can get it built in time and NORRA provides a "historic vintage" race fee discount to get more of us "bucket listers" out and involved.

I find it hugely annoying why it is so hard to understand the fee structure for the NORRA guys.

I'm in. Nacho Cheeze will be taking a rest from this one, but the team will be busy at work prepping the Inchworm.

Do you guys have build threads to share "lessons learned" and "etc" especially if historically involved in NORRA?

I've been down with my early bronco team the last 5 years in a row but this is my first VW-platform build.

I've got a bunch of photos ready and as soon as the Santa Cruz body guy is done then assembly for me will begin in earnest and I will start a build thread to share.
