V.W. Classic Date Change 2014

Post by Old-Towd »

Here's the latest skinny going around take it with a grain of salt - The Classic got dumped from Irvine but found new home at Orange County Fair Grounds bad news different date June 21st a Saturday. This will play havoc with the old Classic week.

Here's some patch work for that week -
El Prado VW Show & Shine - Sunday June 8, 2014

Having to change the 2014 VW Classic date from Sunday June 8th to Saturday June 21st, it seemed to put many of you in a slight predicament. With vacation days already requested off, plane flights scheduled and Hotel rooms booked, most of you have no choice but to cross your fingers and hope for the best.

So after spending the last few days on the phone, exchanging emails and talking with some locals, it seems we found a great "Plan B" to cap off an amazing week!

With the help of VTO and Just Cruzin VW Clubs, we have acquired a nice piece of property at the Prado Regional Park in Chino Ca. Just a couple hundred yards from the VTO Blackstar Campout, the area we've marked off should be the perfect back drop for a nice VW Show and Shine, Swap Meet, Vendor Display and Raffle. We're still in the beginning stages and have a few things to iron out, but I just wanted to let everybody know this week still has a lot to offer.

This isn't anything to take away from the VW Classic on June 21st, but rather something to help finish off an already established VW week, and show the "out of towners" a goodtime and prove their trip was not a waste I for one will be at the OC Fairgrounds on June 21st, and I hope most of you will be as well!

As always the Pomona Swap meet kicks off the week of VW festivities. With six of these swapmeets a year, the June Pomona is usually the best one by far. V.W. Classic Date Change 2014

Post by jsturtlebuggy »

Jay it is kind of a bummer about the change to the Classis. The Amphitheatre has the right to change things with no lead time. At such a late date Bugarama Promotions had to scramble to come up with a place to hold it. I think the fair grounds will be great. It will keep some from complaining about no shade. And real bathrooms.
Just hearing about some of the dealings with the city of Irvine, they can be a real pain in the back side. One is the food trucks, they have to have a license to operate in the City of Irvine. Where in the rest of Orange County you just have to have a license for the county.

The event that going to happen on the normal Classic date put on by Andy Kimball at the park, I have to wonder how well it will go. Every other VW show that has been held on a grassy park has had it problems and are no long happening in California. It seems to be from people that have no respect for anything and do stupid things. Digging up the grass to have a fire, doing burnouts, changing oil and leaving a mess, and leaving unsold greasy rusty parts behind are just some of the things I have seen over the years.
Maybe in the future the Classic promoters can find another place in Orange County that can be more permanent without the hassles of the Amphitheatre and the City of Irvine.
I am still planning on attending the Classic.
