Sunday drive in the Sierra's

Post by jsturtlebuggy »

Sunday afternoon I decided to go for a drive in the Dual Sport.  Headed up Highway 50 to see how it would run in the higher altitude.
Outside of Placerville decided to drive up the Mormon Emigrant trail.  The road is not maintained during the winter.
Seen many 4X4s and a few quads out there.
The BFG KM2's worked great in the snow on the road.  More comfortable feeling then the BFG All Terrains I used before.
At home it was 70 degree's, it did get a little cooler in the snow and higher altitude. It was just a beautiful day for a drive.
Woke up this morning and it raining.  Suppose to be a week of rain here and snow in the mountains.

Thanks for the pictures Joseph.
It looks like a good winter snow pack this year.

Your car looks great with the BRM's.
How did the backspacing work out?

Joe,

The rear wheels are the Flat 4 BRMs 6.5x15in. They are made to fit under a stock bug rear fender. I had them on the yellow buggy with 31x10.50x15 tire with stock IRS supension and it cleared everything find. Just had to turn spring plate bolts around so bolt heads where on the outside for clearance.

On the Manxter it using 3x3 arms so there is plenty of clearance. One thing wheels did help with the deeper inset was to move tire under body line so it is not slinging mud or water up and on to top of body.

I really like the way the KM2 work there is more directional stability than the All Terrains.

Thanks for the info.
You might need to invest in chains if you keep driving in that white stuff!
