Every now and then I get asked to estimate how much this trip will cost, so here are some numbers for some estimations.
Hotels-Scott is trying to secure $80 a nite but a couple of them might be $100 per nite for 2 queen size beds. You might be able to share and split the cost.
Gas-I averaged 19-20 mpg in the Manxvair for C2C, and Baja. I estimated at 15 mpg though for my expenses, shuffle to Buffalo from Rancho Cucamonga, So-Cal to Buffalo, NY calculated mileage 2734, divided by 15= 183 gallons of gas.
Food; Breakfast-free in the Hotel. Lunch $10-$15 ea. (Subway,Carl's Jr, etc) Dinner $20-$30 ea. per day.
Shipping the Buggy Back to So-Cal, We paid $1500 from the Outer Banks, NC in 2013. we used Reliable trucking which was a top notch carrier, you can probably find something cheaper but you might also get what you pay for. Scott Drolet is contacting Reliable for a quote. If the car is shipped then there will also be airfare to get home, but if you are pressed for time this may be you only option. or you could tag along with the ECVW 2015 caravan. This all adds up but that is why I'm setting money aside whenever I can. I've been on 2 of these road trips now and have had a blast, It's more then just a road trip, it's about the people you are with and the sights you see and experience, It's so much more then driving from So-Cal to NY.

So-Cal to Buffalo,NY estimate for 1 person, 1 buggy=$1329.00(based on Hotel avg $90, lunch $10, dinner $20, fuel 15 mpg, gas $3. gal)

Good information, Mike! On the ECVW, I also added in some for souvenirs and excursions. Pikes peak wasn't free and neither was The Grand Canyon. I'm certain that Niagara Falls has tours, so if ya wanna do them, plan accordingly. Also...passports. If you are going to the Canadian side, you'll need a passport. I believe they are 125 right now, but don't quote me. We are going to get ours soon, so I can report back.
Money aside, it's gonna be a blast...an epic adventure. Go if you can. I know we will.

Hi Mike, was wondering if it is too late to join the Buffalo trip. Looks like we will be going as a family, Kira and Kelly will be joining us for the trip. Can I go, please, can I, can I?

1/29/2015 UPDATE! ALL HOTELS ARE READY TO ACCEPT YOUR RESERVATION. PLEASE BOOK TODAY.

HERE WE GO!
The rooms are set and nailed down . . . Here's where we'll be staying on the Shuffle Off to Buffalo caravan to join the "Over the Falls" event in Buffalo New York. I tried to keep the rooms around $80- a night plus tax for rooms with 2 double beds. This proved not to be entirely possible when we move through the larger cities. If you add up the hotel costs, however, and divide them by our 7 night stay, we came in at an average of $89- per night plus tax. To pick the hotels I used Travelocity / Hotel Planner who contacted 138 properties, which I narrowed down to 7 hotels based on a combination of guest reviews and 5 of them offering a free breakfast (I've noted where it is included). Not all the reviews are 100% stellar, but hey It's only one night, right? How bad can it be? (Famous last words:)

Please call and make your reservations before the stated deadline. As of 01/29/2015 all of the hotels are available for booking. Just following the instructions below to secure your rooms. We have a block of 15 rooms at each hotel, so please get your reservations in early (TODAY, even) just in case we need to increaase the room block later. The closer we get to the event date, the more difficult it will be for us to secure extra rooms. Oh, and please let me know immediately if you have any problems making reservations under our group code or if you're quoted a price different than what is shown below. Thank you!

Thank you Joe, But as Mike and Lori Ann will attest, we're having a lot of fun setting this up and I'm personally glad to do it!

So here's the list of prospective "Shufflers":
1. Mike & Lori Ann Dario
2. Scott & Jake Drolet
3.Winnie & Bruce Meyers
4. Diane & Bob Baumgartner
5. Mark Miller
6. Mimi & Butch Myers
7. Connie & Lynn Breedlove (join the group in the middle)
8. Lemon, Kira, Kelly, & Mark Tebbe
9. Mark & Donna Landon
10. Barbara & Tim Byrnes(join the group in St.Louis)
11. Joe Spittler(join the group in St. Louis)
12. Howard Connelly & son (join the group in Las Vegas, NV)
13. Bob Yahn

Finally, Please let me know if you're planning on driving or shipping your car back. Mike and I will need to get back here to host the Big Bear Bash, so we'll ship them back and fly home. Please let me know if you're interested in doing the same and I'll include you in the quote. I would recommend we use Reliable Transport, which is neither the least or most expensive, but they are direct carriers (not brokers) who will ship in an enclosed truck and have our cars back to us within four days. We won't have to worry about some of the horror stories where it takes a broker weeks to get your car back to you. Ballpark cost is probably in the $1,000.00 to $1,200.00 per car range.

Thank you Scott and Mike for all the planning logistics. You know another option is to have a Manx over the Falls attendee drive your buggy back to California with ECVW2015... ;-) Could save you some shipping costs... Just a thought... We'll be leaving Buffalo July 1st at 6:30am.

Shuffle to Buffalo 2015

Post by deano.a »

I had the opportunity to drive Pikes Peak in a Camaro rental car recently and wanted to see how quick I could go. Fail, to much traffic, to many camper vans and to many 4 wheel drives on a Cruz, my advice as a buggy owner is be at the toll road when the road opens 1st thing in the morning. No dust and an open road in front [emoji12].

Hi Scott and Mike, I will be shipping the car back but will be shipping it from Cincinnati. Once we are done with the weekend of the Niagra Falls, we will be heading back to Cincinnati and staying there for a few days. I will go with Reliable like we did from c2c. Still trying to plan the date on the pickup in Cincinnati. Probably will have to arrange on my own and not sure if the truck picking up the cars in NY would be driving to Cincinnati and could then pick up my car there. Timing might be off but we can discuss as we go.

Hi Scott and Mike,
Dianne and Bob have now made the reservations for the trip. Thank you both for all the hard work in setting up the hotels. No problems in making the reservations. We both are looking foward to the trip. When the event is over on June 28, we will be leaving to travel to family near Cincinnati, then driving our buggy home on our own. Thanks again for all the hard work.

See all soon.
