Sinkyone Pre-run

The Sinkyone pre-run was the weekend before the Big Bear event. This was the 8th year and the 10th run that afforded the northern Manx Club members traveling south a wayward point to extend their buggy vacation.

This years Outing brought 13 buggies from around the western states. During the first three days we clocked over three hundred miles, on and off road.  Saturday's  run through the Sinkyone Wilderness was the most difficult . The diverse terrain that stuck some and broke others in and attempt to find that "elusive" newly graded trail came off without any terminal
DNFs. Keep in mind this is a pre-run.

Sundays outing had numerous water crossings and countless switch backs to a lunch stop for deep pit  Beef
and Beans at the Mattole Valley Grange. Heading north after lunch we passed the first oil well in California at Petrolia then on to the wind swept beach and most Westerly point in the Continental US. Turning east
we entered the magical lands of California,s Happy Cows and wild flowers at Bear River Ridge then down through the old Mill Town of Scotia. From here we headed back to camp along the Avenue of the Giants and a savory pot luck dinner.

This is just a taste of what ended up a week long adventure for some on the north coast of California.  WE held true to the RBC (Classic) mantra and just kept it FUN...

Below
are a few pics of the outing ... in no particular order.

The place is awesome as usual. The weather looked perfect, wish we could've made it. Hopefully next year.

It is sooooo beautiful on this run, up in the redwoods, next to the coast...
It can be warm inland and cool just a few miles away - the best of both worlds

Here are a few pics -

At famous "four corners" - getting ready to take the Usal road to the Lost Coast...

Good thing we don't pay attention to the signs... Not to worry, it's a graded road... (not)

Taking a break

Finding a "hidden" beach that only the locals know...
Image

Going to the Mattole grange for some local beans & beef...
Image

Visiting the most western point in the continental US...

Now we're looking for those famous "happy cows"...

A stop on the Avenue of the Giants...

Taking time to wander around the visitors center & museum...

Next day we visit Shelter Cove...

When in Shelter Cove, we must eat some fish & chips...

Then back on the road again...

Back at Mark & Carol's compound - Mark is cooking something good on his cool barbecue...

We will try to put together a little video w/more pictures...

Thanks to Mark & Carol - it was a great pre-run...
Can't wait for the real run to take place!
