New electric dune buggies

I was at a Cars & Coffee type car show at The Point in El Segundo last weekend showing off my SR when an interesting fellow stopped by asking questions about it. This man kind of looked like an incarnation of Carroll Shelby with black shirt, pants and cowboy hat with curiously enough, a Tesla logo on the hat. But when he got talking about dune buggies, he mentioned that he was building an electric dune buggy for the new owners of Meyers Manx LLC. I was flabbergasted at this revelation!

From the way he was talking about electronics, he really knows the intricacies of developing an electric drivetrain for vehicles. I mentioned that I saw a white Corvair at the Automobile Driving Museum car show for Corvairs a while back with, I believe, a Tesla motor where the 6 cylinder engine would be and he knew all about that car!

The March 2022 issue of Dune Buggies and Hot VWs has an article about the new owners of Meyers Manx mentioning "We're going to be getting into electrification. It's going to be a fully integrated development design with its own chassis." So, back to the man with the Tesla cowboy hat, he was at the Point show with his electric Volkswagen that he converted with Tesla motors, battery packs and components. When I looked closer at his car, the license plate frame said "ROADSTERCYCLE-EV.COM." I did a little research on that info and came to the conclusion that he develops electronic solutions for motorcycle problems currently and in the past. Also he is the builder of the Roadstercycle, a three wheel open car using motorcycle engines. I am confident that the future of Manx electric dune buggies is in good hands.

There is an electric buggy in club. Iirc it uses a Tesla s traction motor and 1/2 the battery. I think it is a Playtech build but not 100% sure on that.

Yes, that Tesla powered buggy is a Playtech build. It's insane! IMHO, that Tesla motor is way overkill for a buggy. It takes too much energy (batteries) to keep it spinning. But then that Playtech buggy is a monster-of-a-buggy. EV-West assembled and built the drive-train, with the Tesla motor.
