First Baja Race Winners

Post by CairoManx »

I saw this picture on the Petersen 4wheeloffroad webpage, of Vic Wilson and Ted Mangles in their Meyers Manx celebrating their win at the finish line of the first Baja 1000 race. This is the 40th anniversary of the race. There is a a similar picture in Marty Fiolka's book without the Carta Blancas. Vic Wilson repeated his Baja win in 1970. He also started and organized the Bug-In events at OCIR. Bruce Meyers wrote an article about Ted Mangles in the second Manx Mania issue. Ted also co-drove with Bruce Meyers when they beat the motorcycle record for Baja and basically inspired the creation of the Baja race. Ted went on and managed the Toyota Truck off road race program. It sure would be fun to see Vic and Ted sitting in a Meyers Manx at an event this year. Image
