Re: Utility Manx Found!

Hey Gary, I'm sorry to hear you guys didn't make it, and I hope Diana feels better real soon. I did decide to pass on the Corvair. After talking to all sorts of engine shops, I decided that if I went with a type III (1776cc), it would've come from Russ at Old Speed. Instead, though, I have to agree ...

Re: Utility Manx Found!

Thanks Doran, I'm still on the fence. But have to make a decision this weekend before David gets too far along, Hey Gary, Yeah, I haven't decided one way or another on the Corvair, but I don't have any engine right now. Whatever I end up going with I'll have to buy outright as a turnkey. Doran sugge...

Re: Utility Manx Found!

Thanks, you guys. Nelson, I'm thinking of switching over to mid-60's VW Bus taillights, but the mustang lights are growing on me, so we'll see. Yes, I am interested in a type 4 engine, but they carry a pretty hefty price tag. Doran has hooked me up with a guy selling a reverse rotation Corvair big b...

Re: Utility Manx Found!

I was up early this morning to drive to Sanger, California to leave the Utility Manx in the capable hands of David Barrett. We spent about an hour going over the chassis design, and David (as usual) had a lot of great ideas for how it should look. This will be an IRS chassis with a bus trans and a k...

Re: Shuffle to Buffalo 2015

Great additions Tim, especially the earplugs! Good point on refueling as well. We do shoot for 150 miles between gas stops as a rule of thumb, but find it helpful if the cars have a little more range just in case we're out in the middle of nowhere with gas another 10 or 15 miles away.

Re: Utility Manx Found!

Hi Mark! In some ways, I'm a bit luckier than you . . . . My utility is in horrible shape. The gelcoat is non-existant, and I am forced to do something to try and restore it. Your Manx still has the original gelcoat. I fully understand why you would want to keep it as original as possible. So, resto...

Re: Shuffle to Buffalo 2015

Well, just 45 days before we pull out of Rancho Cucamonga, California and point our Manx hood badges towards Buffalo New York. If you're like me, you've started to go through your buggy to make sure it's capable of driving a couple thousand miles without leaving you stranded. That, and a conversati...

Re: Utility Manx Found!

Any pics of the Joe Poty buggy? What kind of shape was it in? Thanks Mike! It was in poor to fair shape, although the fiberglass body was really thick. I was surprised how sturdy it was. It did have the transaxle and type III motor, although the motor may have been seized. Here's some pics . . . 00...

Utility Manx Found!

Thanks to Doran Dobransky, his lovely wife Jen, and two babies, I was fortunate enough to buy a Utility Manx yesterday! (While you may not understand why I would thank the whole family, bear with me for a minute.) Doran and Jen have two young children, 2 year old Stella, and 3 month old Max. Doran ...
