Re: New to the Buggy Life

Sometimes the fiberglass tub will deform over time, especially if it has not been continuously fitted to a chassis. It could also have been molded on a deformed mold and thus not true to a standard Beetle pan to begin with. You can try incrementally tightening down on the gap sections over several d...

Re: Builder Needed

Yes he is, but may be out of town for a bit. I dropped off my buggy body to him a few weeks ago to build a new chassis.

Re: Anyone ever put a door on a manx style body

I've seen some of the bigger long body clone buggies with doors cut into the fiberglass with varying degrees of success. Since much of the structural strength of the body was cut away to do it, they had to be full cage buggies to keep their structural integrity. I have also seen regular buggies made...

Re: Hope this Forum gets going again.

Like has been said on other threads, this is an excellent place to follow a build and does not loose it's collective knowledge over time as other social media platforms do (by design?...). One can come back here years from now and still easily find a topic/thread and follow it while you can't find s...

Re: New to buggies

We'd all love it if you documented your build in a new thread so we can all watch the progress and live vicariously through your experiences. Every buggy is unique to it's owner, and we look forward to any new and unusual solutions you might have up your sleeve. :D

Re: New to buggies

Welcome! You will have many hours of great fun with it (and a couple of skinned knuckles along the way I'm sure  ). It can be daunting to try and get it perfect right out of the gate so the first thing is to just get it running so you can use it and have fun. Then you can work on it a little a...

Re: New to the Buggy Life

Also welcome to Steve. Where are you out of? We'd love to see the progress of the work on both your buggies. So long as you are making progress, the work doesn't have to be pretty. If it snows where you live, use that time to put together your plan of what you want to do, and get some of those proje...

Re: New to the Buggy Life

Welcome to the insane asylum! You came to the right place for guidance and to ask your questions. You will have years of fun with your buggy no matter how you build it. How do you plan on using it? Mostly street, or off-road? Yes, you can patch the fiberglass holes and paint it. Ours had a root-beer...

Re: Is pismo beach open again???

Always best to never go alone (another vehicle) so you have someone to help when you get stuck. Take a small shovel to dig yourself out. Street or AT tires will work, but not near as well as paddle tires so don't expect miracles. Make sure you lower your tire air pressure. You can get away with arou...

Re: Is pismo beach open again???

As part of a 3-stage reopening, beginning on October 30th, Parks will allow 1000 STREET LEGAL vehicles on to the beach for day-use only (and only if they stick to their published schedule, as it has already changed 3 times). There will be no beach camping and no other types of vehicles allowed. Stag...

Re: New Manx owner - Boston area

With the help of the internet/social media along with a couple of VW books that are still readily available, you can do much of the work yourself. I knew nothing about VW's when we started, but over the last 20 years have been able to do a majority of the work myself with all the resources that are ...
