Re: Carburators at altitude
Hello All, Well I finally got the buggy back from the shop and I was given a rebuilt carburetor and it runs so so much better now, he also did a little rewiring and it runs so good now I can't begin to explain, it pulls from idle to around 4 K I am now happy, except for my shifter, which I will put ...

Re: I can feel everything through the steering wheel
Hello All,
Well I finally made it to big Bear and took a look, it is a very thin (maybe 1/4 Inch) piece of what appears to be rubber, should I be using something else?
Thanks,
Rick

What to carry with me in the Buggy?
Hello All,
I get the buggy out of the shop this Weekend and was wondering besides an ice chest full of refreshments, what else should I carry in my buggy, me and my wife will be taking off road trails in Big Bear California solo.
Any help and recommendations would be greatly appreciated
Rick

Re: Carburators at altitude
Hello All, Well, I put the little buggy in the shop after buying the recommended jets, and the VW Mechanic said my carburetor was the problem, the idle air cutoff was not working and the carburetor was all rusted up so badly he said it is not even worth it to rebuild, so I am putting a new carb on i...

Re: Shifter with trigger
Thanks JSTURTLE BUGGY, I went and got a stock looking EMPI shifter yesterday and hope to install it this Weekend. It does indeed have a longer throw than what is in there. I had a buddy with a stock shifter in it and had no trouble at all, hopefully this will be the same after the swap. I do know ab...

Re: Shifter with trigger
Hello Clone bug, I actually have that adjustable part on my Bug, but I still have a hard time between finding first and 3rd gear, as it is so very close. I just bought a EMPI shifter, are these hard to install? The trigger shifter has such short throw a old guy like me cannot get it sorted out betwe...

Re: Carburators at altitude
Hello Again Maniac, I would bet that the jets have been changed as I just bought the buggy from Nate at Turnkey Manx. I do not know what kind of exhaust I have, but I believe it is from Meyers Manx, it is a header though. Do I need to do anything with the timing and other jets? (Idle, air, or pilot)...

Hello All,
Sorry I forgot to ask, will most auto stores sell these jets?
Thanks,
Rick

Re: Carburators at altitude
Thanks Maniac for all your help!
Do I need to change any other jets, pilot, idle or anything else? I have a pointless distributor that I know works real well.
Would you recommend a carb change?
I am sorry I am very new to the buggy thing.
Thanks again for all your help

Re: Carburators at altitude
Hello All, I took up to our cabin in Big Bear for the first time this Weekend, also my first out in the buggy, it runs way too rich, In fact my wife said to take her home because it smelled so badly of gas. I checked the carb, it is a BOCar, 34PICT-3, if that helps at all. How hard are the jets to r...

I can feel everything through the steering wheel
Hello All, I finally got to drive my buggy today and it seems I can really feel everything through the steering wheel, is this normal on a Manx? Sorry, I have never driven one before and I have never experienced anything like this feel. It feel like the steering column is ridged I hope you all under...

Re: Carburators at altitude
Hello All,
I know it has a 1600 tp with a 009 Distributor, looks like a stock carburetor and was jetted for valley center Ca. altitude (Maybe 2500 feet in elevation)
It is Nate's old Glitterbug from Turnkey Manx
Thanks,
Rick

Carburators at altitude
Hello All,
I plan on attending the Big Bear Bash this year in my little buggy, will I have any trouble at that altitude with the motor?
Thanks,
Rick
