Re: Found a Manx2?

That definitely is a nice start to a buggy. If the price is right you cannot go wrong.

Re: FOUND: Monocoque No. ?

Joseph, Thanks for the compliment on the old monocoque. I could not agree with you more about opening hoods flipping open but the way that the hood is designed on the monocoques, they stretch a bit as they close and thenpop down into place. If you note on Old Red, the rubber bungees (the rubber hold...

Ceramic Coating Costs

I just bought a raw steel sidewinder from MM. I bought 8 oz of white Ceramic coating from Carolina coatings and applied it with a paint gun.I did have to sand blast the whole thing with aluminum oxide prior to coating it as they are quite particular about prepping and handling prior to coating. It t...

monocoque bits

I am not an engineer but this part sandwiched the beam and the glass. On the front side (inside the hood/sump area) there are two straps of steel plate...roughly 2"x7". Those keep the bolt heads (holding the beam and this bracket assembly together) from pulling through the glass. The upper...

monocoque bits

Instead of cluttering up Scotts monocoque thread, I decided to create a new one called monocoque bits. This will be about the special little bits and pieces that Bruce made for the monocoques. First up, this is the front suspension bracket assembly. Since mine was in an accident, I found that this b...

FOUND: Monocoque No. ?

I found the Odyssey brand batteries (as Scott is using) and have been running them for 14 years in the monocoque, Towd etc. I needed a cover to fit the battery so as to hide the fact that I had a modern battery in the car. I made a vacuum form buck and vac formed a look alike 6V cover . The leather...

The steel plate (.062 steel) was added since the front of the board was broken off after the accident very early in the buggies life. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpg/2a3269f669a849912608295c...

FOUND: Monocoque No. ?

All, These are pictures of pictures.....still have not gotten around to scanning my shots from when I redid #7. These shots are of the underside of the monocoque. The car was wrecked in the front and the champaign glass underboard was broken close to the front...similar to what happened to Scott'. T...

Transaxle gear ratios

To determine the ring and pinion ratio, pull the drain plug out and drain your fluid. .Jack up the car so that one tire is touching the ground. while looking up in the drain hole (you have to be right under the drain plug so make sure it is well drained), rotate the tire and watch the gear turn unti...

The hoop that holds the engine in is called a Porsche Hoop. It was used on 356s. If you note, the monocoques did not have the complete rear torsion and transmission supports that VW used. All of that stuff was lopped off and only the Torsion and the spring plates were used. For all that your car has...

FOUND: Monocoque No. ?

Scott, I pulled my seats out with the intention of lowering them 1 inch. I measured them and they measure exactly the same as yours. Yours have not been cut down or lowered. I asked Bruce about the seats in old red and they are stock height as well. He had said that the car was supposed to use prett...

FOUND: Monocoque No. ?

scott, When I was looking for a battery to fit the space, I stumbled on Black Panher batteries which are now known as ODYSSEY brand. They are made by Hawker Energy now. They are kind of pricey but the 925 fits right in the space. They are lower than the original 6V batteries as well so they fit nice...

FOUND: Monocoque No. ?

Scott, Make sure to look for a 6V battery that will fit that battery pocket. I ended up going with a 356/912 Porsche generator. Same size physically as a 6V standard VW generator so it looks correct but you can run 12V stuff. Good deal re the old 40 HP. I would like to find a 356 for mine but the co...
