Scott, Looking at the image I found on facebook, it does appear to have been repainted at least on the interior. The screws which hold the cowl in place have been painted. They would have been silver.

really, it does not ultimately matter but it is pretty interesting. I liken it to digging up ancient ruins or trying to determine what caused a B-17 to go down in a swamp. History is cool.

I have heard as well that there were a lot of "black market manxes" laid up on weekends and evenings. How many of those were built.

Old Manx...I was under the wrong impression then...That is great news...We are nearing a number of strap frames early manxes close to Bruces recollection of production.
