Tow’d HD rear suspension U bolts

I bought a set from Stengel Bros in PA. part number is 5U-1215R, 1/2” x 2 1/2” x 32 round U bolt. You have 5o open up the clearance hole that was used for the original 3/8” 7 bolt but the extra strength is worth it.

Re: Dimensions of the gas tank opening on New Classic Manx?

You could possibly mount a small battery in the lower right hand corner of the pan in front. I have my electric fuel pump mounted in that location currently. You just need to take some measurements and see what would fit. I had as custom aluminum gas tank made for my Manx. Boyd's tanks in FL built i...

Re: Bounty Hunter Transvair emergency brake set up help need

I have a Transvair Kit on my Meyers Manx. I hated the VW emergency brake lever and had nothing but trouble trying to utilize it with the Corvair e brake cable. You have two choices. 1. You can purchase a Emergency Brake Handle kit from http://www.controlcable.com. It takes some work because you need...

Re: Front disc brake conversion

I used an AC industries disc brake kit on a ball joint front end Manx Tow'd and was very pleased with the result. Everything fitted properly and I lucked out because it was on sale at Moore Parts in Anaheim, CA. You just need to take your time grease everything properly, Lock tire the mounting hardw...

Re: what style Master Cylinder is best for Manxter 2+2?

I wrote an article in one of the recent Manx club magazines regarding master cylinders. I modified a master cylinder from a late model Chevy pickup and it works great. You have to modify the mounting flange. I also had to use brake lines that have two different size metric fittings for my applicatio...

Re: Manx Ult. Hadley Vair

I am looking to convert my Manx with the Hadley Transvair Kit from the Corvair swing axles to cv joints or utilizing the late model Corvair IRS components. I want to maintain the Chevy 4 3/4" 5 bolt lug pattern. I cannot seem to find a long enough stub axle for this application. I looked at the...

Tow'd Fuel Tank modification

If your Tow'd tank is in good shape but you want to add some capacity, club member, Phil Moore at Metal Fab in Costa Mesa, CA has the answer. He modified his original tank by cutting it open and welding tapered sides to it. It fits snugly in the existing Tow'd body opening and increases fuel capacit...

TOW'd Gas Tank Replacement

If you choose to replace your Tow'd gas tank, you should look at a 10" diameter center fill aluminum gas tank. You can order it with a fuel gauge sending unit grommet and a in-tank fuel pump grommet. It is a lot safer than the old bottom exit fuel tank that is now illegal in new car builds. You...

Tow'd Gas Tank

My original Tow'd well casing gas tank has a lot of surface rust. I did not want to go through the hassle of machining and welding in a fuel sending unit bung and having the tank interior recoated. I was able to source a spun aluminum center fill gas tank with dual outlet sump, fuel sending unit bun...

Re: Roll bar mounting bracket

You should always use these brackets when you mount a roll bar. They tie the roll bar to the chassis versus mounting the roll bar only to the fiberglass body. Bruce Meyers and I had a conversation about them and he strongly recommended adding them if you currently have a roll bar installed.

Re: LED tail-lights

Philips is now manufacturing 3157 rear taillights in LED. You just pop out the old bulbs and replace them with the LED bulb. you must have the new style lamp socket to utilize these bulbs.

Re: V6 Honda in a dual sport?

The Honda V6 is a beautiful engine when it is out in the open. I saw one in a Manx that was at Big Bear a couple of years ago. I believe it is a smaller profile than the Chevy 4 cylinder. I saw one mounted in a rail at the Sand Expo Swap meet and took pictures. If you go to the Manx club page on Fac...
