Re: Big Bad Brakes! Wow.

if you are going to go off roading, you will need a proportioning valve. i put an adjustable valve in the front brake circuit of my buggy. When i'm on the street I set it up so the bias is balanced front & rear. When off road, I set it so the bias is to the rear (I basically turn the front brake...

Re: Lookit this!

I don't know why this "adjustable" mount was made, or who made it.... I've never seen one, either. I can't find anyone who has seen one, either... (I only asked about three people...) As it ws I had to elongate the holes downward another 1/2" or so... I wasn't really looking for more ...

Re: Lookit this!

Hello, I thought I would post a follow up to this post. it turned out the trans was sitting too low in the horns. The problem was in the after market solid mount transmission saddle. The saddle was "adjustable". I had never seen one like it. the holes for the two 18mm bolts were elongated....

Re: Lookit this!

Hi! I've found another transaxle. It's a '68 long axle. I need to clean it up and replace the boots. Lastmanx, I drive this buggy the same way I drive my other buggy and I don't experience the grinding, etc. that I do with this Swing axle trans. That's what makes me thing the synchros are bad. Also ...

Re: Lookit this!

Thanks! The previous owner added an after market solid rear trans mount. all my other buggies have stock, but heavy duty mounts, but they are all IRS.. This is my first Swing Axle buggy. I thought I would have had time to go out and unravel and "mysteries" in the trans mount by now, but li...

Re: Lookit this!

Thanks!

I notice that there's a "bolt on" boot that looks like the original German one piece boots...I might try those....

Re: Lookit this!

Thanks, Joseph.... I didn't get a chance today, but I'm gonna compare the Tow'd and this buggy. I'm gonna measure a few things that (I think) will tell the tale..... One thing I noticed is there seems to be several types of boots... Some are sorta pyramid shaped, and some (mine) are not. Mine are th...

Re: Lookit this!

Hi 5150 Bossman, This buggy has the rear spring plates indexed very low, in my opinion. It is so low that the previous owner installed some coil over shocks. I think he was hoping to raise the rear end a bit. It's so low that the body rubs the rear tires on small bumps. On my other buggy (IRS) I did...

Lookit this!

3293 3292 Hello, I need a little help. I bought this buggy a few weeks ago, and have been going over it, "discovering" things... The project started out with the idea that I would remove the transaxle and replace it with a better one. This one has 2 bad synchros and a serious leak... I co...

Re: Swing Axle problem

I got the bearing out today, and found that the inner spacer had broken. I had it installed right, it just broke.. Got a replacement from B&R Buggies. So tomorrow reassembly starts.....Again...LOL..

Thanks again, Joseph!

Re: Swing Axle problem

Thanks Joseph... I was pretty careful about not letting the axle come out of the tube, but anything could have happened. I thought I double checked the orientation of the inner spacer, but heck, sometimes I lose things I just set down in front of me, so who knows?... It has a couple of bad synchros,...

WTB Swingaxle Transmission

Hello! I'm looking for a Swing Axle Transmission... I have IRS Transmissions and would prefer a trade, but, I need the tranny, so I'm interested in whatever deal I can get........ I am just looking for a stock, serviceable tranny.

I'm in San Diego County, but willing to travel a bit.

Thanks!!

Swing Axle problem

Might I please pick your brains a bit??? I was replacing the right rear axle bearing and seals on the buggy...(Swing Axle). Pretty straight forward, and everything went sorta well.... I was tightening up the nut, when there was a loud metallic "SNAP', and the wrench lost resistance. So I starte...

Re: Stroker stuff

I think the answer on the width of the motor has to do with the "A" or "B" Pistons... The "B" Pistons move the wrist pin toward the center of the crankcase. That facilitates the longer rods... The 5.4" Rods are essentially stock. The "A" Pistons are essen...
